I had heartburn very frequently during pregnancy and it got worse the further along I got. I already had to take medication for heartburn on a daily basis prior to pregnancy and still had heartburn about every week or two. Although heartburn is an incredibly common occurrence during pregnancy, make sure you tell your doctor or midwife if you are experiencing it.

If one of these remedies didn’t work at the time, I just tried one of the others. Some days some worked better than others.

What worked for me:

  1. Almond milk and almonds!
  2. Chewy Rolaids (with your midwife or doctor’s approval)
  3. Club crackers
  4. Cheese
  5. Bananas
  6. Eating small, frequent meals
  7. Sleeping slightly upright or with my head elevated

What did not work for me but what I have heard works for others:

  1. Papaya enzyme tablets
  2. Yellow mustard

In addition to remedies to help soothe heartburn, try to limit what may be causing your heartburn.

Some causes for me were:

  1. Coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverages
  2. Tomatoes
  3. Excessive garlic
  4. Onions
  5. Spicy foods
  6. Anything mint flavored
  7. Eating too much at one time

I hope this helps. Let me know in the comments if any of these worked for you or if something else did!
